Introduction

The Directorate of Technical Education in Union Territory of Chandigarh has four technical institutes under its control viz. Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology CCET (Diploma Wing), Government Polytechnic for women (GPW), Government Industrial Training Institute (GITI) and Government Industrial Training Institute for Women (GITIW). These institutes cater to the Supervisory and skilled manpower needs of the industry in and around the city Beautiful of Chandigarh.


Objectives

The aim of the G.I.T.I is to create a learning environment for the trainees and provide opportunities for them to realize their complete potential. Emphasis is laid on character building and development of individual aptitudes for learning and ability to adapt to the society. Our main objectives are (i) To provide a curriculum designed to develop a trainee physically, intellectually and emotionally so that he/she emerges as a responsible and well balanced fully technically skilled citizen who can adjust him/her self in the modern industry as well as be a future entrepreneur. (ii) To ensure a steady flow skilled workers in different trades for the industry. (iii) To raise the quality and quantity of industrial production by systematic training of workers and (iii) To reduce unemployment among the educated youth by equipping them for suitable industrial employment.

Upgradation of existing Govt ITI into MODEL ITI

This Institute has been selected to be upgraded as Model ITI under the Govt of India, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, New Delhi. For this, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has been selected as Champion Industry Partner by Chandigarh Administration. The main objectives of the Scheme are: 1. Re-alignment of offered CTS Programmes according to Industry needs. 2. Up-gradation of labs, buildings, Library, Workshop, Computer Labs and other facilities like hygiene, safety and quality upkeep. 3. Setting up of full-fledged training, counselling & placement cell to boost placement and training activities of trainees. 4. Opening of New Trades. 5. Champion Industry Partner is conducting various training programmes for the trainees & staff in the most popular trades to make the trainees industry ready and to boost the training skills of faculty.

Govt. of India scheme of Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE)

The STRIVE is a scheme of GOI with the assistance of World Bank. Under this scheme Govt ITIs are planned to be upgraded with financial support of GOI. In UT, Chandigarh, this Institute has been selected under the STRIVE Project with the main objective to improve the capacity and capabilities of existing ITIs the project also emphasis on the increased participation by women trainees in all trades. A performance based funding agreement has already been signed on 11.02.2019 between the Directorate of Technical Education, Chandigarh Administration and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, New Delhi. The duration of this scheme is for the five years from 2017-18 to 2022-23.
